Study Group Principles

At least two groups, Max of three, of 4 enthusiasts to meet 4 times a year, under the direct supervision and guidance of John Hanby.

Each member must be committed to developing their skills and knowledge with each tree selected, over the long term. Group members will be able to take each selected piece of raw material to the very best level possible, thereby enhancing their individual knowledge but also the commercial value of the finished tree. Group members will benefit from the in-depth discussion and assessment of their own and other group's trees, to a level not normally available during a normal busy lesson.

General Principles

Each group will purchase, by mutual agreement, raw material and all other requirements for the tree, from the nursery, with the intention, in the long term, to sell the finished, or semi-finished tree, on the nursery. The proceeds to be reinvested in the next piece of raw material for the group to work on. To ensure adequate time is available for more in-depth discussions a maximum of four trees can be in training at any time, per group.

Each tree will be treated individually, with respect to purchase and valuation, except where trees are purchased for inclusion in a group or multiple planting, whereupon the group shall be deemed to be one tree, and valued accordingly.

It is possible that eventually the groups will be self financing, with each sale allowing for the purchase of better raw material.
