The Newstead Garden and Bonsai Centre is a family-run garden centre and number one Bonsai centre in the UK - near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, conveniently located near to main routes including the M1, M62, A1.

We always have something for everyone - from a huge range of plants, shrubs and trees, a fantastic range of horticultural accessories and garden supplies in the Newstead Garden Centre to an excellent range of Japanese garden trees and stone lanterns plus an extensive bonsai nursery - all contained within our 4 acre site!

The John Hanby Bonsai School goes from strength to strength, with classes and workshops for everyone, from beginner’s classes and workshops, to advanced classes. The Bonsai School aims to teach the students about the proper care required to grow, develop and refine their Bonsai throughout the year. All classes are conducted in comfortable purpose built studio, and are lead by John Hanby - the internationally respected professional Bonsai artist and teacher.

2006 saw the hugely successful Newstead Bonsai Extravaganza - the premier Bonsai exhibition in the UK. With demonstrations by Japanese Bonsai Master NOBUTAKA SAKUMA (formerly Kaneko) and Danny Use from the prestigous Ginkgo nursery in Belgium.

We have an on-site coffee shop - JJ's serving fresh coffee, tea, refreshments and a wide range of freshly prepared home-cooked food, from breakfast to lunch - please come and pay us a visit - you will be most welcome! Why wait until tomorrow - sometimes tomorrow never comes..
