At the end of the DVD for “Newstead Two” I asked the question…”Would we ever see a better bonsai exhibition in the UK?”

Many visitors and exhibitors were convinced that Newstead Three was in fact our best exhibition to date. It was certainly our biggest with over 200 trees on display in the exhibition hall.
The standard of the trees was exceptional…one of the exhibits had been shown in the famous Kokufu exhibition in Japan. The long shohin bench was a top class show in its own right.
I would like to thank our many exhibitors and visitors from Scotland, Wales and the distant counties of England for confirming yet again that Newstead is a truly National bonsai event.
This DVD will give you an insight into what’s required to stage such an event but more importantly the large number of volunteers who not only gave up their time, but also worked exceedingly hard. A big thank you to each and every one of you. Special thanks to my resident team of Len, the two Derek’s, Bob, Gerald, Duncan, David and Judy. Behind the scenes the tireless work of Jackie, Rachel and Samantha is often overlooked but underlies the success of the whole venture.

Once again thank you to my friend and mentor Danny Use and also to Nobutaka Sakuma. The packed lecture room was treated to some amazing forest and juniper creations whilst Danny delivered endless information in his unique entertaining style.

Our third show, our third DVD, our third success story. It’s all here, the hard work, the trees, the characters, the stage…..the spirit of Newstead lives on.

The Future

After Newstead One bonsai in the UK is no longer the same. You have seen Britain’s bonsai at its best. Where else can you see the best trees in the best naturally lit bonsai exhibition venue in the country? But these are not exhibitions for the elite. All the trees are good trees…one from the Kokufu, another from a beginners back garden. You see I have never forgotten that once I was just a beginner. That is why when you visit Newstead whether it is for an exhibition, education, or to make a purchase, you will always find a warm welcome safe in the knowledge that here “Bonsai is for everyone”!!!
