Studio Stories – The Dragon’s Tail……Back in the studio!

Sometimes I work on nursery trees, sometimes I work on client’s trees……and sometimes if I’ve been a really good boy I get to work on my own trees. Hopefully these regular visits will give you an insight into what goes on behind closed doors……….

Studio Stories – The Dragon’s Tail…..Back in the studio!

It is 12 months now since this remarkable Japanese White Pine was cleaned out, pruned, totally wired and restyled. You will find his story in earlier posts.

He has recovered well from last winter’s work and has had a good growing season this year. The tree was now too dense and so he was brought into the studio so that last years needles could be removed to allow more light and air into the tree.

Evidence of his recovery and strength is clearly visible in the form of extensive back budding inside the tree. I tried to capture this but it was difficult to achieve the correct focus. Hopefully you can still make out the numerous new buds.

The removal of these needles will help to keep the tree’s growth in balance and promote the development of the new buds.

If you look back at the earlier posts you will appreciate just how much a tree can change in as little as 12 months.
