Memory Lane – Newstead Two 2006…an element of cascade!

Looking back….we can tell a tree’s story…..admire an image…..capture a moment…..remember a special event…..be inspired – to create a memory for tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy this regular peep into some of John’s bonsai history.

Memory Lane – Newstead Two 2006…an element of cascade!
The cascade and semi-cascade styles of bonsai…..a natural style perhaps suggesting a tree hanging precariously off a cliff face, or something more gentle reaching out over calm water.
The tree or parts of it often lean out beyond the rim of the pot but essentially there is a very strong suggestion of downward growth/movement……it is this which distinguishes it from the many other styles of bonsai.
Sometimes it’s not so clear cut……the tree may be growing upwards but have a very strong branch or foliage area with a downward or sideways movement which dominates the design.
If designed and brought together correctly all these variations can work and be acceptable often resulting in some very striking and dramatic bonsai. Cast your eyes over the trees below which were exhibited at Newstead in our 2006 show. Check out the cascading element……which ones do you like?…..do they all work?…..maybe there is inspiration here for your next bonsai creation……???
